We caught up with Simon Morris, co-founder and managing director at Morris Armitage to learn more about what it takes to run one of the region’s top estate agents.

“At the young age of 21, I opened my first estate agents in Bury St Edmunds. Never one to rest on my laurels, I came across the opportunity to work for myself again and in 2002, and Morris Armitage was born.

This time, I set up the business with my co-founder, James Armitage. At the start, James and I outlined a shared vision of how we wanted the company to grow. We were very bold as we opened two offices in the first three months and since then, the business has gone from strength to strength as we now have six branches across the region.

However, business growth has come with its challenges. It’s a very competitive market place and rates are constantly fluctuating. This year, we’ve adopted a more strategic approach to our marketing to stand Morris Armitage apart from the competition for all the right reasons.

Over the years, we’ve taken our time to build a team of hard working, talented individuals that have all helped to grow the business. James and I have developed a focused, professional but relaxed culture across the business, which has reflected the very low staff turnover rate across the business. In fact, over half of our staff that joined us in the first five years, are still part of the team.

The future holds many exciting things for Morris Armitage. We had one of our best sales months in April this year selling over 40 houses in Newmarket and Burwell alone, and we’re striving to become one of the leading independent estate agents in the region.”
